The Brooklyn Chanukah House is located at 6222 Avenue T in the Mill Basin section of Brooklyn, NY. Our family has been decorating our home for Chanukah for over ten years. Most of the decorations are handmade.

We started decorating our house when our then two year old daughter asked us during the winter holiday season, why we couldn't have lights on our house like everyone else. We decided that we would start decorating our house for Chanukah. The only problem was that other than a few simple window cutouts, there were no other Chanukah decorations on the market. So we did the only thing that we could, we started making our own.

We started with a single dreidle made out of wood and strung with white lights. We then found some blue lights that we put up together with white lights. From that time on we tried to add something new every year. A few years ago we found a projector that projects a picture of a menorah on the top of our house. This year (2006) we found an inflatable teddy bear holding a dreidle and added a two-foot tall 3D dreidle that actually spins. We plan on adding more new items in the years to come.

We are proud to say that our home has become a local Chanukah tradition. People stop in front of our home day and night to look, admire and take photos. Our home has been featured in several local newspapers and televison news broadcasts. This year we were presented with a proclamation from Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz naming our home, the official "Brooklyn Chanukah House". Now more than ten years after it all started our daughter says that it is all because of her, she's right of course.

The miracle of Chanukah is supposed to be publicized. That is why Jews all over the world light their menorahs in the windows or doorways of their homes where people passing in the street can see it. We have just taken it a step further.

We are happy that what we have done has been received so positively. We look forward to continuing our tradition of being Brooklyn's Chanukah House for many more years to come.
